TIPS: How to buy foundation online

Buying foundation on-line is pretty tricky because of colour matching. Personally I always recommend you buy foundation in store so a makeup artist can colour match you. However that being said I realise not everyone lives in a big city where this is available or you wish to purchase a brand that is not readily available in the local market.

So here are my tips...

1. Don't buy a foundation just because your favorite beauty guru, makeup artist or celebrity crush wears and raves about it. Also, most importantly don't buy a foundation just because everyone else is buying it. Remember everyone has different skin so make sure you do your research before impulse buying. Google or YouTube reviews from different people that have the same skin-type as you.

2. Buying foundations online is a big risk especially when selecting a shade. By now you should know that findation.com is not 100% or even 99% accurate. Findation.com is a website that helps people choose foundation shades in other brands based on the foundation shade they currently use (if that makes sense).

3. Know your undertone (Cool, Warm or Neutral)

4. Read/watch many different reviews.

5. If possible get colour matched at a MAC cosmetics counter. When someone does a review on a foundation, they often mention the shade they use in MAC as well. So if I review my Estee Lauder foundation in the shade tawny, I'll also mention what MAC shade I wear.

6. Check out "Foundation Matrix" on Temptalia's blog. I find this tool more helpful that findation.com

7. Once you've found a possible shade you can search swatches on Google. Often you can compare your skin to others that are pictured wearing it.

8. Read the returns policy. Personally I don't agree with people who buy foundation online and want to return it because the shade doesn't suit them.  When you buy online it is a risk you take and it's not the company's fault. The swatches they have on their website look different to how they look in real life. This is because everyone's laptop, computer and mobile screens are different. I would always recommend you do your own research using the tips above.

I hope these tips really help you when buying a new foundation online :-)
