I LOVE perfume. I feel it completes me once I have on a killer outfit and gorgeous hair and makeup.
Now the only downside to a lot of perfumes are the price tags attached. Its a bit of an expense.

Its coming up to that time of year again. Where does the time go?

As its free to dream I've been quietly stalking the Sephora website to see what some of the high end makeup houses are bringing out for their holiday collections and boy are there some beautiful things to choose from.

Below are three picks I would love to find under my tree this year.......

Time to party....

It's party time...
With loads of Christmas parties happening at the moment I've been busy suggesting to customers in store to 'step outside their comfort zone' with makeup!

Seriously there is no better time than a party to experiment with a bright lipstick, new eye shadow shade or a fancy manicure.

Consider choosing a bold lip colour - we love the lipsticks from the LA Girl range. Wear something bolder than usual to make people say WOW :) Check out the video for tips to get your lips looking fabulous.

For your eyes think about using a deep brown eyeliner rather than black. This will keep your eyes from appearing too heavy-handed, especially when you also have a bold lip colour.

Remember to finish your look with lots of mascara, just because you can't ever over do mascara :)

My go to list for shoppers....

Lipstick : LA Girl Matte Pigment Glosses or LA Girl Matte Flat Lipstick $9.09

Lipliner : LA Girl Auto Lipliner $7.69

Eyeliner : LA Girl Gel Glide Eyeliner $8.39

Moschino - Pink Bouquet

 Moschino Perfume

I've been incredibly spoilt by my lovely friend Betty.... She has just given me the most beautiful bottle of Moschino perfume as a thank you gift!

I hadn't tried Pink Bouquet by Moschino previously and now I'm in love :)  And definitely wanted to let all my followers know about it.

It is the most perfect summer scent - very floral and fresh. Every time I spray it I think of beautiful big bunches of flowers. It is a fun, girly, sweet fragrance which suits me perfectly. Because of the sweetness I think it probably suits younger wearers more than older, more mature wearers.

According to their website it is a 'floral-fruity blend with top notes of bergamot, pineapple sorbet and raspberry. A heart incorporates jasmine, pink lily of the valley, violet and peony petal, while base notes leave a juicy trail of peach, gingerbread and musk.'

My nose isn't quite that sophisticated and I can't make out all those individual scents but I can assure you are blended into a very appealing fragrance :)

So if you are looking for a new, fun, floral scent for summer I would highly recommend 'Pink Bouquet' by Moschino

Afghans and Lipsticks?

Since Lucy started the blog I don't think we have mentioned 'the big cheese' AKA my boss.

He is quite the character and a pleasure to not only work for but work with.

Recently he (yes he) set the whole LoveMy Makeup team a challenge.... The Great Bandit Bake Off!
All the staff were asked to submit a container of baking for a chance to win $300 worth of makeup!

I immediately jumped on board as I thought it was a fun competition and $300 worth of makeup?
Yes PLEASE!

I submitted afghan biscuits and came 1st equal with another of my fellow Makeup Artists from Hamilton. So I had $150 to spend and this is what I got ...

One by One Mascara by Maybelline - This is my new holy grail mascara so it was my first pick.

L'Oreal Voluminous False Fiber Lashes Mascara - I was drawn to the cool packaging and it says after using this mascara you lashes will be fuller, longer, sculpted and curled at every angle. I want lashes like that!

Crown Eye Brushes - These are perfect for small detail work and smoking out the lower lash line, I didn't have anything this small in my collection so of course they came home with me.

L.A Girl Velvet Matte Lipsticks - I chose 5 colours...

Hush - Is a perfect pink based nude. Now I'm very picky when it comes to nude lippy as so many are just not the right balance of pink and brown but this is my new fave.
Electric - I have been told that this is a dupe for MAC's Candy Yum Yum. It is a hot, electric pink. It's so pigmented and bright I love it, it's perfect for summer.
Bliss - This shade is similar to Electric but I'm such a pink lipstick wearer I had to add it to my collection. It's more of a deep berry pink that I'll wear on a day to day basis.
Hot Stuff - I am trying to get some more coral shades into my stash, especially for summer and Hot Stuff is a pinky coral rather than an orange coral. I cannot pull off orange unfortunately.
Gossip - My perfect matte blue based red. I don't wear red lipstick often as I'm afraid that I'm gonna smudge it but when I do it has to be a cool toned true red.

L'Oreal Colour Caresse Lip Lacquer - Infinite Fuchsia.
When these first came in knew I had to try them as it L'Oreal claimed they were a stain but stayed glossy. For me this seemed impossible but I was surprised that they really do what they say! The only downside for me is they don't have a lot of pigment so I would recommend them to people wanting a long wearing gloss.

L.A Girl Pro Long Wear Concealer in Porcelain - This concealer is amazing!
It does a similar job to my more pricey MAC Pro Long Wear Concealer. Just remember a little goes a long way with these.

Za Two Way Foundation - My fave powder foundation right now. I had to get a backup!

Essie Nail Polish - Take it Outside.
I really wasn't sure about this nail polish as I usually go for the fun, bright out there colours but I was pleasantly surprised when I used it. Its a nice neutral grey/beige colour.

PHEWWWWW! That is a lot of makeup to go through!  Quite the haul :)

Its always nice when there is a fun competition at work and even better when the prize involves new makeup!

Nicole by OPI.... Who is Nicole?

Nicole by OPI

Who is Nicole?  Obviously someone so famous that she has a OPI range named after her....

Nicole is actually the daughter of George Schaeffer, the founding father of OPI nail lacquer!

Her dad along with several other people developed some special nail products and started manufacturing them. Originally OPI was only sold directly to nail salons and hence it's reputation of being a salon professional brand. OPI products were not available in retail stores and if you wanted to buy one of their products you needed to buy it from the nail bar. Of course you can now buy OPI in lots of different places.

The 'Nicole by OPI' brand was launched by OPI as their retail brand and was sold via retail stores across America (and now the world!). The range was named after George's daughter, Nicole. It is priced slightly lower than regular OPI polish and is more of a 'drug store' product rather than being designed for professional nail artists. However the quality is still great and there is a HUGE range of colour and textures.

Nicole is evidently planning on joining her dad in the business one day.

Imagine your dad being Mr. OPI - how many nail polishes would you own??

Review | ZA Rich-Glam Liquid Rouge

With three sales happening at the moment at LoveMy Makeup, there are so many top quality products sitting at a steal of a price! (I've already filled up my basket with loads of goodies). One product in particular that I need to share with my blog readers are the Za Rich-Glam Liquid Rouge lipsticks.

These liquid lipsticks are a perfect addition to your lip collection for the summer not only for their moisturizing formulas for the hot weather but also for their rich pigment colours. For myself, when I think of lip products and times of the year I think, mattes for winter and liquids for summer to achieve maximum care for the lips and in season style!

I found these lipsticks very easy to wear despite such a moisturizing formula and after a day of wearing it, I found that my lips were very soft and full.
While these usually sell for around $18.00 NZD, they are currently on sale for $6.49 - and yes I have taken complete advantage and grabbed myself multiple colours as per usual!

Thanks for reading xx

Jelly Sandwiches???

What is a jelly polish?
"Jelly" refers to the finish of the nail polish.  On the nail (and even in the bottle) a jelly polish will look translucent and jelly-like, almost like you could squash it like real jelly...

Applying jelly polish?
Just apply the polish as usual although most jelly polishes are VERY sheer so you may need apply three, four or even more coats to your nails.

Why buy a jelly polish?
The sheerness of colour may make you think why bother purchasing this product - sounds like hard work... Well think of jelly polishes as being like a lip gloss while regular nail polish is like a lipstick! Different but still great :) Jelly polishes can look extremely cool on your nails plus you can create cool nail art with them like 'jelly sandwiches'.

What's a jelly sandwich?
A jelly sandwich is when you apply a layer of glitter polish in between layers of a jelly polish to create a "sandwich." This makes the glitter particles look suspended within the jelly... It looks really pretty on your nails, almost like the glitter is floating. Since jelly polish is quite sheer you can create some really cool effects by mixing up the colour combinations you use.

Jelly polish is definitely a hot trend this summer and the sheerness will team well with your relaxed summer vibe.

Much love

Comparison : LA Girl Matte Pigment Gloss vs. LA Girl Matte Flat Velvet Lipstick

LA Girl Cosmetics have been very busy this year releasing new ranges...

Their Matte Pigment Glosses took the world by storm earlier in the year and they really struggled to meet customer demand. I know in our LoveMy Makeup branch they were a hot seller & some shades sold out almost as soon as new shipments arrived in. Thankfully production is now keeping up with demand.

See my review and full swatches of the collection here

Within the last month or so LA Girl released their Matte Flat Velvet Lipstick range. It was so exciting to get these into the store as we had been eagerly awaiting their arrival. I think I'm safe to say we are all loving the huge range of colours available. With 26 shades there is definitely something for everyone!

See my review and full swatches of the collection here

A lot of our customers have really loved (& still love!) the Matte Pigment Glosses. However now when they come into store and see the Matte Flat Velvet Lipsticks  as well they can feel a bit overwhelmed about what Matte choice to make!

So here are my personal thoughts....  I love both these products & both cost $9.09 at work currently.

The Matte Pigment Glosses are super long wearing and have great pigmentation. The application wand can make applying this liquid lipstick a bit tricky. Ideally use a lipliner first to achieve a crisp lip outline. It is fantastic your lip colour stays on all day even when you eat & drink although the glosses may make you lips feel dry. There are 16 colours in the range.

The Matte Flat Lipsticks are great for people that want a matte finish without using a liquid lipstick. They are easy to apply, achieve a great matte finish and feel nice on your lips however the colour doesn't last as long as a matte liquid lipstick. With 26 colours in the range you have a greater selection of colours including blue, grey & black.

Ultimately it comes down to personal preference on which option to chose. I have purchased a few of each depending on what makeup look I'm wanting to achieve.

Hope this helps in your decision making xo

Guest Post by a non-makeup wearer!

Hi everyone,

I'm Emma and Lucy has asked me to write a guest post. Lucy and I have been BFFs since we were little kids and I knew her before she became a total glamour puss!

As for me I'm astounded to be contributing to a makeup blog - I'm not nearly as glam as Lucy. However Lucy has steered me right on the makeup front...

After backpacking my way through Asia I now doing my OE in London. Lucy just about died when she realised I intended on taking NO makeup with me on my travels... seriously I was backpacking and makeup wasn't a high priority!

Anyway Lucy ended up convincing me I needed 'the basics' and we narrowed it down to essential 5 items!
  1. BB Cream
  2. Neutral eyeshadow
  3. Brown eyeliner
  4. Mascara
  5. Matt Nude Lipstick
I'm really pleased Lucy made me pack some makeup! Even though it was a pretty minimal selection it was just enough to make me look a better 'natural version' of myself. The BB cream evened out my skin tone and with a smear of eyeshadow and a smudge of eyeliner my eyes popped. A bit of lippy and I was ready to face another day backpacking.  Plus I look better in my photos :)

So thanks Lucy for helping out your non-makeup wearing friend. Your suggestions were great & who knows this could be the beginning of my makeup obsession...

Remember if you are a glamour puss be kind to your non-makeup wearing friends they might just need a few easy makeup tips - the world of makeup can be pretty intimidating to the non-makeup wearer!

Lots of love Emma xxx
